In June 2017, the Baker Center for Leadership & Governance sent five undergraduate Hoyas on an experiential learning trip to Jakarta, Indonesia.
Together with students from the University of Chicago, Harvard University, and BINUS University of Jarkarta, our students spent the week exploring this challenging question:” How do we ensure inclusivity in the smart cities of the future?”
In Jakarta, students met with leaders from global businesses, government and international non-profit organizations including the International Labor Organization, Smart City Jakarta, IBM and city council. At the end of the four days they presented their solutions to a panel of local stakeholders. The trip gave our Hoyas the chance to:
- Develop a global perspective and strengthen their ability to work effectively across cultures
- Partner with other students to identify new solutions to complex problems
- Foster new relationships and build a global network
Our Hoyas in Jakarta provided friends and peers with an inside view into their travel, sharing their experiences on social media with photos, videos and reflections. Be sure to check our Facebook and Twitter pages to learn more about their experiences, and stay tuned for more opportunities from the Baker Center to cultivate leadership skills!
